Here’s the thing about your social media channels.
If you’re like most business owners, your Facebook page is either a source of great joy or a source of continual frustration.
For some business owners, they have found that they can actively engage with their followers, post real-time content, engage in groups, go live frequently, share useful content, and they see a great reward for their efforts.
But for many business owners, their Facebook page is something they set up a while ago and frequently forget about. You keep making plans to post consistently, but in reality, you just post when you want, and you rarely want.
There’s a Better Way
A well-laid plan in advance can save you hours of frustration in 2021. You can do this by yourself, with your team, or with a marketing partner (cough cough like Kairos Digital).
But it’s not rocket science. Here’s how:
Step 1: Decide Where You Actually Want to Be Posting
Not every platform is right for every business. If you had an eager marketing person make you every social platform under the sun, it might be time to trim those down.
It’s better to be good at one or two than be bad at more.
Do you really need to be on Twitter? If you’re not a media, entertainment, or culture-focused brand, probably not. Do you really need to be on Pinterest? If you don’t have a visual brand, then probably not.
Pick 1-2 you can actually handle and shut down the rest.
Step 2: Decide on How Frequently
Not every business needs to post 5-10 times per week (or per day). It is better to decide what a consistent rhythm would be for you and then be faithful in doing it.
If you’re not sure what frequency is going to work for you, it’s okay. Just start with 1-2 times per week to make it easy and then grow from there once that’s under control.
Step 3: Pick Categories
Do you have a lot of customer testimonials and reviews? How many of them do you want to highlight in any given month? Do you write blogs or shoot videos? Is there content on your website you want to make sure people are seeing? Are there other pages you follow that you want to be sharing and promoting?
Make a list of ideal categories and then divide up your posting frequency among them.
For example:
- Two Posts Per Week = ~8 Per Month
- 2 Customer Testimonials
- 1 Blog Post
- 1 Content Share
- 3 Links to Your Website
- 1 Inspiring Quote
Step 4: Work Ahead Now
It’s hard to make a plan and then chip away at it for the whole year. It’s not impossible – it’s just hard. And you have a lot of other things to focus on in 2021.
So do the work now.
Do the math on how many posts you will need for the entire year and lay them out now. Put systems in motion to ensure you have all the testimonials, blogs, graphics, links, and content you want to share so you don’t have to think about it again.
The Best Part
This plan isn’t the final word on your social media strategy. You will have events that you’re hosting, awards you win, staff you hire, announcements, and celebrations you will want to post as they happen.
The best part of this is that when you post those special occasion posts, it will be in the context of a well-laid social posting system you did the work to set up.
This means when you post those special posts, they actually are special. They’re not lost to your audience because they haven’t heard from you or seen you in 2 months in their social feed.
